Caught the morning commuters in Kyoto 


 Took the street train to Arashyama 

wasnt expecting this expansive landscape so close to the city 

Went to a monkey park 



Hiked up to the top




Tofu soft serve matcha 






More to come… but just got back to the hotel after being out for 9 hours and heading to the ONSEN hot bath for some R&R before dinner!

And we’re off!

We’ ve been dreaming up this trip for a few years now, ever since we got the idea to go for our honeymoon. Covid got in the way of that but fast forward and we’re here!   We flew direct from SFO to Osaka. I watched a movie called Takano Tofu and learned all about the soy bean to tofu production process. I also watched Boys in the Boat. We got a complimentary upgrade to economy plus and enjoyed the extra legroom but the food was terrible. We also were delayed two and half hours because they didn’t do testing before we got on the runway!

Arashiyama Part Two - Temple, Bamboo forest

Photos in this post are a bit out of order…  I guess you could say we nerded out a bit over this Buddhist temple. The one we go to in San Francisco was modeled off of this. The real deal!   Tenryu-ji Temple Bamboo forest ! It felt sooo good to take our shoes off for a walk around the temple  Sardines in many varieties  Pickled cucumber with lemon on a stick - refreshing snack!

Arashiyama part three - scenic railway

Lots of school groups visiting the sites with us  This was the train we took Took a detour to see a residential neighborhood  Walked 10 miles or so… headed to the hotel onsen Loved our outfits from The hotel River view at night!  Lots of people were hanging out along the River. Reminded me of the Seine in paris   Breakfast room at the hotel. Lots of Asian tourists. We’ve also seen Australia tourists and Italians.
